    OSCMS Summit Logo

Well, it's all done now. It was an awesome experience - I got to meet all the luminaries of the Drupal world (Dries Buytaert, Rasmus Lerdorf, the Lullabots, the Bryght folks, etc etc). I learned a bunch of little things about Drupal, and revitalised my Drupal spirit.

  • This Website is Implemented in Drupal

    druplicon.small_0.png

This website is implemented using Drupal 5, an extremly powerful software package "that allows an individual or a community of users to easily publish, manage and organize a wide variety of content on a website". It's great for blogs and personal websites, collaborative authoring, newsletters and podcasts, as well as acting as a framework for more complex interactions. There are literally hundreds of contributed modules for Drupal that do everything from putting Google Maps onto your pages, implementing a complete commerce/shopping cart site, WYSIWYG editors, and content suggestions engines.

The actual software is Open Source (under GPL license), so we can modify and extend it as required. It is implemented in PHP and MySQL, so it's easy to deploy and maintain, and quick to get up and running. Development costs are very reasonable, and Drupal community activity is exploding right now! We are using Drupal as a basis for a couple of different projects that we're implementing right now. More news as it comes to hand!

  • Taniwha - What's in a Name?

    taniwha06a.png

You might be wondering what the name "Taniwha" means. To quote from the wikipedia page:

In Māori mythology, Taniwha are beings that live in deep pools in rivers, dark caves, or in the sea, especially in places with dangerous currents or deceptive breakers. Some can tunnel through the earth, uprooting trees in the process. Some taniwha are credited with creating harbours by carving out a channel to the ocean. Other taniwha are said to have caused landslides beside lakes or rivers. At sea, taniwha often take the form of a whale or a large shark. In inland waters, they may still be of whale-like dimensions, but look more like a gecko or a tuatara, having a row of spines along the back.

We feel that this represents us as a company: a quiet and astute creature (our people), comfortable with dangerous currents (the web), powerful (skill and experience), and somewhat unique at the same time.

If you're interested - the word is actually pronounced "tun-e-far".
